Help celebrate 10 years of Shining Stars through Keystone Stars!  Here’s how it works:

• Families, teachers, and programs can nominate a child to be recognized as a Shining Star.
• The child must have participated in a STAR 2-4 program for at least two years to be nominated.
• The person nominating the child shares why this child is a shining star and how participating in a Keystone STARS program has benefitted the child and family.
• All eligible nominations will be posted on the PA’s Promise website www.papromiseforchildren.com
• LEARN teams will recognize local nominees.
• All nominees will be invited to participate in a press event and Family Fun Day in Harrisburg on May 8!!

‘Tis the season for giving, sharing, and for New Year’s resolutions. Many pledge to meet fitness goals, save more money, save more time, or work to “be better” at something in general.  Self improvements are things to strive for and the benefits of  meeting your goals are very rewarding, but just imagine how rewarding life could be if we each also pledged to work toward bettering not only ourselves, but our home community for our families, our friends, and our neighbors.

The Tioga County Partnership is a grass roots organization dedicated to bettering the quality of life for individuals in our community. Many opportunities to become involved exist within our organization:

• Maybe you are a numbers cruncher or a tech savvy Generation Y’er that needs some resume building experience? Ask about volunteering for our Measurements and Outreach workgroup.   This is a group that talks about and deciphers local data and makes it accessible to the public though multimedia applications. The local data is used to help bring sorely needed grant money to our community! ( Highschool senior projects, anyone???)

• Perhaps you love playing or exercising in the great outdoors? Ask about volunteering for one of our popular Step Outdoors events!  They take place every winter, spring, late summer, and early fall. Help to inspire others to get outdoors and get healthy!

• Perhaps you have a passion to help the less fortunate? Ask about how you can become involved with the Tioga County Homeless Initiative.

 …Whatever your talents, we hope you will consider getting involved. This year, resolve to help make your community a place where “being better” is second nature. ~Volunteer with the Tioga County Partnership!

The Countryside Council is pleased to present the first six films of the “Countryside Film Series.”  The Series will be held at the Victoria Theater in Blossburg at 7:00 PM on the third Wednesday of each month.  The theme of each film will explore some aspect of the notion of “Countryside” and will deliver a message of hope and respect for the country and the country folks who live there.

Every year during the “Dickens of a Christmas” event in Wellsboro, PA on the first weekend of December, people stop at the Tree of Hope to help decorate  it’s boughs in support of those in recovery from addiction. The sign reads  “ This tree and each of its ornaments represent support for someone in recovery, the memory of someone lost to substance abuse, and hope for the still suffering alcoholic or addict. Celebrate alcohol and substance abuse recovery!”
